GcilA’s member firm Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald, LLP (Watt Tieder) provided legal assistance for the construction of parts of the L.A. sewer system. Their client was hired by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for the construction of a 5 mile sewer system in downtown Los Angeles.
Significant, unforeseen and differing site conditions resulted in damages doubling the original contract value of $25 million. When it became apparent that the project was in jeopardy, Watt Tieder provided an experienced lawyer to ensure that the claims were properly documented and managed. The lawyer was working directly with the project management team on a full time basis for the entire duration of the project.
Through Watt Tieder’s efforts, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power terminated the project “for convenience,” resulting in a successful outcome and substantial damage recoveries for the client.
